What is Life Insurance?

Everyone deserves financial piece of mind- Life Insurance is your way of ensuring financial security for yourself, your assets, and those you love. Whether you’re just getting started or planning to retire, life insurance is so important because it provides your family with a secure financial future.

We all know that life is full of risks from an inexperienced driver, forgetting to turn off the stove, or having a tree positioned close enough to your home to cause severe damage (true story by the way). It is really not a matter of “if” you will need life insurance but “when”.

Similar to auto insurance, life insurance is a contract between you and the insurance company that protects you against financial loss in the event of an untimely death or accident. The primary purpose of life insurance is to provide a financial benefit to dependents upon premature death of an insured person. The policy pays a specified amount called a “death benefit” to the named beneficiary, when the insured dies.

One of the biggest deceptions regarding life insurance is that insurance provided by an employer is guaranteed. However this is not the case, insurance provided by an employer is called Annual Renewable term life insurance-which means in the event an employee is laid off, fired, quits or decides to retire the benefits will either decrease or cease. It is an excellent incentive while employed but is not guaranteed.
